- WA#5: Practice with the present perfect. Follow the directions carefully.
Topic: Write a paragraph about one of your friends or family members. Write about that person’s experiences, accomplishments, and/or interests. You need to write about someone that you know. (not a famous person) Also, the person has to be alive right now.
- Begin the paragraph with a main idea sentence about the person. This should be the first sentence in the paragraph.
- In this paragraph, you need to write at least 140 words in paragraph form.
- Use at least two time clauses with since/ever since.
- Use the present perfect in at least 6 sentences.
- Underline the present perfect verbs and highlight the time clauses with “since” or “ever since.”
It is okay if you use the past tense or the simple present to talk about the person. However, the focus needs to be on the present perfect. See my example below.
For example:
My daughter, Tessa, has done so many creative activities since her childhood. She has enjoyed art since she was in elementary school. She has taken many drawing and painting classes in school and on her own. She has even won an award for a painting of a rooster. Her painting was in a local art show and she felt very proud of that. Furthermore, Tessa has played the guitar for a long time. She practices and learns new songs almost every night. She has performed several times in front of her classmates. Last fall, she played and sang at her high school talent show. Tessa has also been a rock climber for many years. She has had fun climbing the walls at the local gym ever since she climbed for the first time. Finally, Tessa likes to write stories and poems. She has written a journal full of poems. I’m sure that she will keep doing these expressive activities for many years. (160 words)
