The signs and symptoms of COVID-19

Presentation

The signs and symptoms of COVID-19 present at illness onset vary, but over the course of the disease, most persons with COVID-19 will experience the following1,4-9:
  • Fever (83–99%)
  • Cough (59–82%)
  • Fatigue (44–70%)
  • Anorexia (40–84%)
  • Shortness of breath (31–40%)
  • Sputum production (28–33%)
  • Myalgia (11–35%)


Watch for symptoms

People with COVID-19 have had a wide range of symptoms reported – ranging from mild symptoms to severe illness.

Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. People with these symptoms may have COVID-19:

  1. Cough
  2. Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  3. Fever
  4. Chills
  5. Muscle pain
  6. Sore throat
  7. New loss of taste or smell

This list is not all possible symptoms.

Other less common symptoms have been reported, including gastrointestinal symptoms like nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.
